Service Description
Postnatal massage, also known as postpartum massage, is a therapeutic bodywork designed for women who have recently given birth. This type of massage focuses on addressing the specific physical and emotional needs of new mothers. It aims to help them recover from the strains of childbirth, reduce postnatal discomfort, and promote overall well-being. Benefits Pain Relief: Alleviates muscle soreness and joint pain caused by the physical demands of childbirth and caring for a newborn. Reduced Swelling: Helps reduce postpartum swelling by improving circulation and lymphatic drainage. Hormonal Balance: Aids in balancing hormone levels, which can help reduce symptoms of postpartum depression and anxiety. Improved Sleep: Enhances sleep quality by promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Stress Reduction: Lowers stress and promotes emotional well-being, helping new mothers cope with the demands of caring for a newborn. Muscle Recovery: Speeds up recovery of muscles and tissues, particularly those affected by childbirth. Improved Circulation: Enhances blood flow, aiding in the healing process and improving overall energy levels. Support for Breastfeeding: Can relieve tension in the shoulders and neck, which are common areas of discomfort for breastfeeding mothers. How it works During a postnatal massage, the therapist uses gentle and nurturing techniques to address the specific needs of the new mother. The massage may include a variety of strokes, such as effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading), and gentle stretching. The therapist may focus on areas of tension, such as the back, shoulders, neck, and legs, to relieve muscle soreness and fatigue. Positions and techniques are adapted to ensure comfort, especially if the mother is breastfeeding or has had a caesarean section. The goal is to provide a relaxing and restorative experience that supports physical recovery and emotional well-being. Postnatal massage can begin as soon as the mother feels ready, with consideration given to any medical advice or specific postpartum conditions. Sessions are typically tailored to address the unique recovery process of each individual, providing support during this significant period of adjustment.
